Low-voltage switchgear is a core device used in power systems for the distribution, control, and protection of low-voltage electrical energy. Its fundamental knowledge covers aspects such as structure, function, classification, and key parameters.
Structural Composition: Low-voltage switchgear typically consists of a cabinet body, busbar system, circuit breakers, contactors, relays, fuses, instruments, and indicator lights. The cabinet body is assembled using standard steel or C-channel steel profiles. Inside, the cabinet is divided into a busbar compartment, a functional-unit compartment, and a cable compartment. These compartments are separated from each other by steel plates or insulating panels to ensure safety.
Functional Roles: Its core functions include power distribution, motor control, reactive power compensation, and equipment protection. Circuit breakers enable circuit switching and provide short-circuit protection; contactors support frequent start-and-stop operations; relays perform logical control; fuses offer overload protection; and instruments are used for real-time monitoring of parameters such as voltage and current.
Classification method: By structure, they can be divided into fixed-type, drawer-type, and intelligent-type. The fixed-type has low cost but is inconvenient to maintain; the drawer-type is easy to inspect and is suitable for high-reliability applications; the intelligent type integrates remote monitoring and automation functions, meeting the requirements of Industry 4.0. By purpose, they can be categorized into distribution cabinets, control cabinets, and compensation cabinets, which respectively serve power distribution, motor control, and power factor correction.
Core parameters: The rated voltage is typically 380V or 660V, and the rated current ranges from several hundred amperes to several thousand amperes, depending on the load capacity. The degree of protection is indicated by an IP code—for example, IP30 provides dust and splash protection and is suitable for general industrial environments.
